Privacy Policy

What we collect

  • Bill data: the content of any utility bill you upload, including account information, usage data, rate plan, and charges as they appear on the bill
  • Email address: only if you voluntarily provide one, to receive a copy of your analysis or, separately, if you opt in, to receive rate-change alerts
  • Usage analytics: session-level data about how you interact with the Service (pages viewed, whether an analysis was completed), used to understand and improve the product

What we do not collect or infer

My Big Bill does not extract your name, mailing address, or zip code from an uploaded bill for marketing purposes, and does not build inferred profiles (such as income or socioeconomic status) from your bill data for advertising or retargeting. Any zip code or location information used to improve rate accuracy is only ever requested directly from you, with a stated reason.

How we use your data

  • Bill data is used to generate your analysis. It is not sold, and it is not shared with contractors, installers, advertisers, or data brokers.
  • Email, if provided, is used only for the purpose you consented to at the time (a copy of your analysis, and/or rate-change alerts if separately opted in). These are tracked as separate consents; unsubscribing from one does not affect the other.
  • Analytics are used in aggregate to understand product usage and are not used to build individual marketing profiles.

AI processing disclosure

Bill analysis is performed in part using Anthropic's Claude API, a third-party AI service. When you upload a bill, relevant extracted data (such as usage figures, rate plan, and charges) is sent to this service to generate your analysis.

Your rights under California law (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected and how it's used
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (My Big Bill does not sell personal information)

  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

To exercise these rights, contact legal@mybigbill.com.

Sensitive personal information. If your bill indicates enrollment in a discount program such as CARE or FERA, this may be treated as sensitive personal information under California law, since it can indicate income level. My Big Bill uses this information only to calculate an accurate rate comparison for your bill. It is not used to build a marketing profile, is not shared with any third party, and is not used for advertising or retargeting of any kind. You may request that My Big Bill limit the use of this information to the minimum necessary for generating your analysis by contacting legal@mybigbill.com.

Data retention

Uploaded bill data and analysis results are retained to let you return to your results without re-uploading, and to operate and improve the Service. If you've provided an email address, you may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting legal@mybigbill.com.

Security

My Big Bill uses industry-standard security practices to protect uploaded data, including encrypted storage and transmission. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
